The Decoding Software team is in charge of research and development for the main software asset of Datalogic: a suite of proprietary algorithms to read traditional barcodes, 2D codes and some kind of OCR text. Codes and text can be either printed on paper labels or directly marked (e.g., by laser etching) on parts of plastic, metal, wood, or other material. Monochrome or color pictures of codes and text are captured by cameras embedded into Datalogic scanners and their resolution, contrast, SNR, background clutter and other image-quality parameters strongly depend on the specific use case.We are looking for a proactive and technically skilled Software Application Engineer to join our Decoding Development Team. You will become part of a growing group responsible for ensuring software quality of our “Decoding-Library”. You will play a crucial role in managing software releases, maintaining CI/CD infrastructure, and supporting business units across various platforms and tools. This is a dynamic, hands‑on role with close collaboration across R&D, DevOps, and technical support teams.Key Responsibilities1. Release Process Management:Maintain and improve the library release process (Python‑based scripting)Run and integrate non‑regression tests into the automated release pipelineDraft and review release notes and integration documentationContribute to new features implementation on C++/C# test tools2. Test Farm Maintenance & Expansion:Manage and improve a test infrastructure composed of Linux/Windows servers and embedded Linux devices for performance and regression test.Ensure device boards are operational and integrate new hardware into the CI system for testing.Maintain and evolve the library’s CI/CD system using technologies such as:Docker, Jenkins, JFrog, Network FilesystemsStatic analysis tools (clang, cppcheck)Develop optimized build scripts and perform validation tests on evaluation boards.4. Business Units Support:Interact with Technical Support and R&D teams from various Business UnitsAssist BU technical support teams during field issue analysisHelp determine whether issues originate from the decoding library or the application softwareConduct preliminary analysis of requests and defect reports.5. Application IntegrationSupport Business Units during the integration of new library features into their applicationsTroubleshoot integration issues in collaboration with BU teamsIdentify potential integration challenges and propose improvements to enhance the usability and quality of the software library.6. Technical Collaboration & Issue Resolution:Interact with Technical Support and R&D teams from various Business UnitsAssist BU technical support teams during field issue analysisHelp determine whether issues originate from the decoding library or the application softwareRequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Computer/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent fieldLanguages: Italian and English (intermediate or better level)Experience: 5-8 years of hands‑on experience in SW engineering
