Simulation and Operations Research Product Lead
We at APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, are searching for a Simulation and Operations Research Product Lead to bridge the gap between our operations and technology teams. The role focuses on specifying and developing operations research and simulation components that power our operational tools, improving productivity and driving efficiency.
This position does not offer relocation. However, we welcome candidates already based in one of the following locations:

Hague, Netherlands
Copenhagen, Denmark
Maidenhead, UK

About The Role
You will lead the specification and development of operations research and simulation components, shaping solutions that address real‑world terminal challenges. You will collaborate closely with vendors, engineering, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities

Translate operations needs into technical specifications
Evaluate analytical approaches and vendor tools utilizing operations research methods
Lead data analysis to understand the value of potential solutions and conduct performance validation of developed algorithms and solutions
Create detailed solution requirements and user stories to guide development teams
Propose fit‑for‑purpose algorithm and solution approaches for prediction, automation, and optimisation problems
Utilize a lean mindset to identify opportunities to eliminate waste and standardise processes through solutions
Collaborate with tech teams to shape delivery

Ideal Background

Strong algorithmic and modelling knowledge
Experience developing modelling approaches, embedding simulation and operations research methods
Experience in the end‑to‑end process of developing optimisation solutions for processes and systems
Industries such as F1, consulting, aerospace, manufacturing, pharma are a plus
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Key Skills

Deep understanding of data science methods, such as algorithms and mathematical techniques
Knowledge of technologies, tools, suppliers, and agile, DevOps delivery models
Ability to shape ideas and concepts with business users and programmes
Ability to assess complexity, evaluate different solution approaches, and de‑risk through PoC prototyping
Capability to assess third‑party vendor tools
Experience creating business cases for analysis or solutions with business users
Lead the development of specifications and requirements for tech/development teams
Engineering, computer science, or scientific background with significant experience delivering data‑powered solutions to operational problems
Lean‑minded with a strong continuous improvement mindset
